Work In Progress:
Code Mole

One week over the summer of 2008 my co-workers discovered the song "Code Monkey" by Jonathan Coulton:

We began, in certain instances, referring to ourselves as "Code Monkeys" (Usually when we were placed under a tight deadline and, out of necessity, required to hack out "functional" code with little thought to future maintenance). One day while waiting for the daily SCRUM to begin (A fifteen minute status-update meeting in the IT dept) I drew a picture of how I envisioned a Code Monkey to look on our whiteboard table. Out of this was born the "Code Animal" project.

My first boss (Jason Sisk) often referred to himself as a "Code Mole", so that was the next logical animal to draw. I also created a Code Leopard, Code Turtle and Code Hawk. Each animal represents a different mind set programmers are sometimes forced to adopt. Normally programmers will default to one of these types, but are always at one point or another forced out of their comfort zone into another type.

Below are my initial sketches. The graphics at the top of this page were created in Adobe Illustrator. These were going to be turned into stickers, but I no longer get the printing discount I once got at CIK (my previous employer). They may see new life in my upcoming PHP lecture series, in the form of Flash cartoons.
